The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said on Sunday that he was ready to abandon his post if it meant peace in Ukraine, adding that he could exchange his departure for the entry of his country into the military alliance NATO.
“If (it means) peace for Ukraine, if you really need me to leave my post, I’m ready,” Zelenskiy told the irritated air when he was ready to leave his post if it meant Secure peace.
“I can exchange this for NATO (membership), if this condition is there, immediately,” added the president.
US President Donald Trump was pressure for the elections to occur in Ukraine, after having marked Zelenskiy a “dictator”, an apparent reference to the official mandate of the Ukrainian chief in 2024. Is an illegitimate leader.
Ukrainian legislation prohibits the holding of elections during a martial rule of law, which Ukraine declared the day when Russia invaded in February 2022. Trump also claimed that Zelenskiy had a four% approval rating .
“I will not be in power for decades, but we will not allow Putin either in power in the territories of Ukraine,” said Zelenskiy on Sunday, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A survey published this week has put Zelenskiy’s approval notes at 63%, and he referred to this when he talked about Trump’s claims on Sunday, describing his false declarations of “dangerous”.
“I believe that it is not an error, it is a disinformation that has an impact,” said Zelenskiy.
Zelenskiy said earlier this week that Trump was in a “disinformation bubble”, angry with the American president and his team. On Sunday, he sought to justify the previous comments. “(Information) about four percent of the Ukrainians supported me is one of the signals divided by the Russians, which is why I said that it was a disinformation attack, I did not say that it is was President Trump, “Zelenskiy said on Sunday.
Trump’s criticism of Zelenskiy has come when relations between the two leaders have deteriorated strongly in recent weeks.
Zelenskiy opposes the idea of the elections in a large -scale war, a position supported by its main internal political opponents.
The Ukrainian president also said that he wanted to see Trump as a partner for Ukraine and more than a simple mediator between kyiv and Moscow.
“I really want it to be more than a simple mediation … It’s not enough,” he told a press conference in kyiv.
Deal Minerals
Trump said Ukraine should give the $ 500 billion in critical raw materials as a help that kyiv has already received from the previous administration Joe Biden.
Zelenskiy refused to sign a detailed proposal from the United States last week which would have seen Washington receive 50% of the critical minerals from Ukraine, which include graphite, uranium, titanium and lithium, the latter a key component in electric car batteries.
He said he wanted to conclude an agreement, but that he should offer security guarantees to Ukraine in return.
On Friday, he said that the American and Ukrainian teams worked on an agreement and Trump said he expects an agreement to be signed soon.
Zelenskiy said on Sunday at the press conference that he rejected the idea that Ukraine owed the US $ 500 billion.
“There can be (no) format that makes debtors for us for the old one (aid given).”
Zelenskiy said earlier this week that Washington had provided his country $ 67 billion in weapons and $ 31.5 billion in direct budget support throughout the almost three years with Russia.
“I will not sign what 10 generations of Ukrainians will reimburse,” said Zelenskiy about the mineral agreement.
The Minister of the Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, said on Sunday that 18% of Ukraine under Russian occupation contained about $ 350 billion in critical raw materials, adding that Ukraine is carrying out additional geological research to update old decades.
The president of the president, Andriy Yermak, said on Sunday that he had new constructive discussions with senior American officials to develop Ukrainian minerals.
