WhatsApp would be close to launching a reworked music sharing feature for its status updates, offering users a similar experience in Instagram Stories when sharing Spotify songs.
According to Wabetainfo technological initiates and the Android police, the updated feature will improve the way music is displayed on WhatsApp, offering overviews of album cover, song names and artists, and more attractive arrangements visually for shared tracks.
“The sharing of WhatsApp status updates will generate an overview of the cover of the song / album, with the names of the song and the artists,” reported the police of Android. “Similar to sharing on Instagram, users will have four background colorization options – sampled from the dominant colors of the cover.
The images shared by Wabetainfo show that the functionality closely reflects Instagram music sharing tools, reflecting Meta’s wider thrust to integrate music more deeply on its platforms.
The update is aligned with Meta’s recent strategy to stimulate user engagement thanks to music, especially as Tiktok – the dominant player in the discovery of music and viral trends – faces regulatory uncertainty in the United States.
Meta has already introduced several tools focused on Instagram music, including songs on profiles, musical stickers “add yours”, coil words and music in the notes. The expansion of tools similar to WhatsApp is part of the business efforts to remain competitive.
With WhatsApp being the most popular messaging application in the world – and gaining ground in the United States – the new music sharing feature could help Meta increase interaction and become an essential platform for musicians and music lovers.
Although the Whatsapp update music sharing option has not yet been officially announced, the reports suggest that its launch is imminent.
