At least seven Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian city of Kazan, hitting residential buildings early Saturday.
The attack, which left at least three people injured, is one of the most significant attacks on the city since the start of the war.
According to the Telegram channel SHOT, two drones hit a 37-story building in the city center.
The drones collided within an hour of each other, causing significant damage. Tatarstan Prime Minister Alexei Pesoshin visited the site later on Saturday, as reported by the official TASS news agency.
Another residential building was also hit, with three explosions reported by independent media ASTRA. Video footage shared by the news outlet appears to show a drone crashing into the roof of a four-story building in the city.
The explosions triggered a temporary closure of Kazan airport to ensure flight safety, said Rosaviatsia, Russia’s civil aviation authority. Local schools were also evacuated, according to RBC.
Kazan is located more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The region has seen an increase in Ukrainian drone strikes since April, when a dormitory was targeted in Tatarstan, injuring 13 people.
