Manila, Philippines – The Bols of Meralco and Chris Newsome could push a sigh of relief after having won a place in the playoffs of the Philippine PBA and closing the eliminations with a victory.
But instead of relaxing, Newsome and Company keep their net objective before the basketball champions next month in Dubai.
“It is a good place to be to take this momentum in the playoff series,” said Newsome after their 82-73 victory against Ginebra at Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
“The only thing is that we have to cut this momentum to go abroad and play a different basketball style (for the BCL).”
Rather than feeling installed with their 6-5 file, the Bols will train immediately for the Dubai Games, which take place from July 9 to 15.
Newsome, which finished with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one flight, reiterated that even if they are assured of a place of qualifying series, staying clear for the quarterfinals is another thing – and the BCL offers the perfect test.
The PBA qualifiers have not yet finalized start date, Newsome is already delighted to defend their crown after launching the BCL campaign.
“Our chemistry is really good at the moment and with the way we play, we are playing at a high level,” he said. “We are impatiently awaiting the playoffs, which we face.”
