In a recent interview with The Voice of the NorthLille striker Jonathan David (24) has raised the possibility of extending his stay with the French club beyond the expiration of his current contract at the end of this season.
David’s deal contains a provision allowing him to begin negotiating a pre-contract agreement with another club from January 1, 2025. The Canadian international has been the subject of significant transfer speculation in recent years, but no decision has yet materialized.
With his contract about to expire, David admitted discussions over a renewal were ongoing between his representatives and Lille.
“As the president (Olivier Létang) said, there are discussions. We still talk and the door is never closed. It’s 50/50,” commented the striker.
Létang previously stated that David, along with Lille’s other key players, would remain with the club during the January transfer window. However, the player’s future beyond this season remains uncertain.
Interestingly, reports suggest that David’s dream destination, Barcelonahave not been convinced to make a move for the Canadian striker, according to Mundo Deportivo.
As contract negotiations continue, it appears David is keeping his options open, neither committing definitively to Lille nor ruling out a possible departure when his current contract expires.
