At least 54 people have been killed across Gaza since dawn Saturday in the midst of intense Israeli bombings, with 26 of the deaths reported in the northern enclosure region, according to local health authorities.

Among the dead were four children whose body was removed from the rubble following a strike in Jabalia.

The last escalation of violence came while the Arab leaders gathered in Baghdad for a summit of the Arab League, where the war in Gaza dominated the agenda.

Meanwhile, a new series of ceasefire negotiations is underway in Doha, Qatar, between Hamas and Israeli representatives. Addressing Reuters, the head of Hamas, Taher al-Nono, confirmed that the talks had resumed and were underway without prerequisites.

“Hamas wishes to exercise all the efforts necessary to support the mediators in the success of these negotiations,” said Nono, although he noted that “no certain offer is currently on the table.”

The resumption of talks occurs in the midst of continuous Israeli military operations in Gaza. Israeli officials say they aim to establish “operational control” in several areas of the territory, despite the assembly of international pressure to defuse.

Friday, the renewed diplomatic effort follows the conclusion of President Donald Trump’s American tour. The visit ended without any apparent breakthrough towards a ceasefire, although Trump recognized the aggravation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and underlined the urgent need for aid deliveries.

While efforts to negotiate peace continue, the review of civilians increases, both parties under surveillance of the international community for the current humanitarian disaster.
