When Maria Helena Ruiz won the bronze medal on the initiative of 2025 Junior Tennis recently, she had every reason to be proud.
After all, the eight -year -old talent was the only girl to have made the podium in the unisex category of 9 sous. But she obtained more than just a brilliant medal for her efforts.
She received a message of congratulations from the star of Philippin Tennis Alex Eala, whose rise in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) ranking this year did not prevented her from being inspired by young athletes.
“Hi Maria,” Eala said in a video message to the young Ruiz. “I saw that you have won your Milo tournament. Congratulations!”
“I remember playing at that time when I was younger,” added Eala. “So, I hope you will continue to work hard and train hard and I hope to see you soon.”
The greeting had an immediate impact on promising Ruiz.
“I was so inspired by her and I had a boost, as in my mind, I will train much more difficult and I will do my best to meet her soon,” said Ruiz Extatic.
Eala, aged 20, is currently participating in the Lexus Eastbourne open in the United Kingdom, a Grasscourt tournament that the Philippin star uses for her preparations for Wimbledon.
