Buckingham Palace issues a declaration on the use by Meghan of the HRH title

The use by Meghan Markle of the title HRH recently aroused discussions on the question of whether it violated its agreement with the late Queen Elizabeth II. According to BBC reports, Meghan used the title “HRH” on a card sent with a personal gift but not for public. The card, which accompanied a gift basket for American entrepreneurs Jamie Kern Lima, said: “With the compliments of HRH, the Duchess of Sussex.”

Sources close to Meghan and Prince Harry told the BBC that this card was not a violation of the terms of their departure from the royal functions. When the couple resigned as Royals who work in 2020, it was agreed that they would no longer use the HRH title for official functions. However, they still keep the titles, which has aroused confusion and the debate concerning their use.

The official statement published by the Buckingham Palace in 2020, in the name of the late Queen and Duke and Duke of Sussex, said that even if Harry and Meghan would no longer officially represent the royal family, they could continue to maintain their private owners and associations. The declaration stressed that they would not use their HRH titles to an official capacity, because they were no longer members who work from the royal family.

Despite the controversy, sources close to the Sussex maintain that the use of the HRH title on the personal gift card did not violate the agreement, as it was not used for commercial or public purposes. This situation added to the current debate on the couple’s royal titles and their post-Royal life.
