Alex Eala progressed around the quarter -finals of the Lexus Eastbourne Open after the third seeded Jelena Ostapenko retired because of an injury on Wednesday evening (Manila time).
Led 3-2 in the third set, Eala marked a rehearsal on her Latvian enemy with Ostapenko unable to continue after having injured her left ankle earlier in the match.

The AS of Philippin Tennis had to recover from a first disastrous set, where the world n ° 20 dominated 6-0. Eala recovered with a 6-2 victory in the second set to force a decision maker.

“It’s never a good feeling to finish a match like that,” said Eala after the match. “I hope everything is going well with her because it was a really difficult battle today, and I think we were both by the edge, you know that it could have been the match of anyone.”
“So I wish him a quick recovery and I am super happy to be able to play again in this beautiful place.”

Eala beat Ostapenko for the first time as part of her historic Miami Open race in March.
It is deeply in its accumulation for its first round in 2025 Wimbledon Main Draw Set for next week.
The world number 74 opened its Open Eastbourne campaign with a dominant victory against Lucia Bronzetti on Monday.
