WASHINGTON: The President of the United States, Donald Trump, demanded that Russian President Vladimir Putin “stops” attacks against Ukraine while Kyiv realizes the greatest Russian attack in months on Thursday.
In an article on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I am not satisfied with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. Not necessary and a very bad timing.
“Vladimir, stop!” 5000 soldiers per week are dying. Let’s do the peace agreement! “
The officials said that at least eight people had been killed during the attack and that Moscow had launched 70 missiles and 145 drones in Ukraine.
While the Russian missiles were raining kyiv during the night in the largest attack in Moscow against the capital of Ukraine in months, Anna Balamutova caught her children and ran to a refuge, saying that they had been saved by a “miracle”.
Outside their home in the Kyiv Sviatyshynsky district, the rescuers worked through the rubble of highly destroyed buildings. A woman was sitting on a stool, caressing a body covered with a blue sheet that was on the grass.
Balamutova, who left the city of Pavlograd more east in the war when she was increasingly attacked, said her family had the chance to have reached a nearby refuge.
“If I lived further, I could not have managed physically with two children … to recover them in the middle of the night and flee ballistic missiles,” said the 36 -year -old player.
“It was just a miracle that we were saved by the fact that the alarm was raised and that we immediately went down.”
She ran with her five -year -old and 14 -year -old child in a wave of explosions.
“People ran into blood, some were transported, howling, children, it was very terrible … I have no explanation (for) how it can happen in the modern world,” she said.
Ukraine has been constantly struck by Russia since Moscow invaded in February 2022, with the attack on Thursday the last in a series of fatal strikes on civil zones in recent weeks.
He came a few hours after Trump criticized the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky for not giving in Crimea – annexed by Russia in 2014 – in Moscow as part of a peace agreement.
Olena Davydiuk, who was woken up by explosions and ran out while “the windows and the doors began to fall,” said that she had no doubt about Russia’s goals.
“Why is Russia doing this? Well, that wants to destroy us, that’s all,” said the 33-year-old lawyer, with rubble in the street behind her. “He wants to destroy the boys at the front and we at the back.”
Moscow said he had shot military targets and that “strike objectives have been achieved”.
While the rescuers worked through the rubble of blocks of apartments in the Soviet era, residents – mainly elderly people and many families with children – were seated on benches outside, some holding their property.
A woman, blood and bruises on her face, tightened her little dog by telling a rescuer that someone was under the rubble.
Another body lay on the grass outside, covered with a white sheet.
Nearby, a psychologist took care of a woman of a white t-shirt that held both hands on his mouth, crying.
Zelensky interrupted a visit to South Africa on Thursday and said that more than 80 people were injured in the attack. The authorities warned that the number of deaths could increase, with more people who are trapped under the rubble.
Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said 31 people had been hospitalized, including five children. He declared a day of mourning in the city on Friday.
The emergency services have published images of rescuers looking for people through the rubble in buildings of high height apartments in the dark, wrapping with civilians through tight and destroyed stairs.
