“Umar Farooq was appointed Pro Bono ambassador as a whole within the secretary general’s office,” according to a letter from Remigio Maradona, MSA, the permanent secretary general.

In his letter to Zahor, Iimsam said that the ambassador will help fight malnutrition by managing the free global distribution of spirulina, focusing on poorly served areas, in particular Pakistan, alignment on UN sustainable development objectives for 2020-2030.

IIMSAM operates as an independent intergovernmental observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, a role granted by the 2003 ECOSOC resolution. The organization is essential in the fight against global malnutrition by promoting and distributing spirulina, a very nutritious micro-alga.
