Saturday’s Wild Card Round game against the Baltimore Ravens will be Russell Wilson’s 17th career postseason outing. The quarterback won nine and lost seven of his first 16 playoff games
He completed 61% of his passes for 3,786 yards and 25 touchdowns in 16 career playoff games.
Wilson’s playoff record may not seem impressive at first, but it’s actually quite respectable when you take into account that he has nine playoff wins, which is second only to the total of Patrick Mahomes (15) among all active quarterbacks.
Russ is one of 17 quarterbacks in NFL history to have at least two games above .500, having made more than 10 playoff starts. Additionally, he is tied for eighth for most playoff wins in NFL history with nine.
Early in his career, Wilson had a lot of success in the playoffs. He guided the Seattle Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances and five straight playoff berths from 2012 to 2016, during which the team won its first championship in 2013.
However, the 36-year-old quarterback was 1-3 in his last four playoff games, and his most recent triumph came against the Philadelphia Eagles on the road in the 2019 playoffs.
In his first regular season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson finished with a 6-5 record. Now, he will want to improve his playoff record and also win a playoff game for the first time since 2019.
If the Steelers want to end their playoff skid, Russell Wilson needs to be at the top of his game. Since 2011, head coach Mike Tomlin has seen his team’s painful losses pile up to reach a 3-8 playoff record after starting his career with a 5-2 playoff record and two trips at the Super Bowl.
The team’s last playoff victory came against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. Since then, they have suffered five straight playoff losses.
